The latest act of the diplomatic crisis between Qatar and Bahrain has resulted in a new rule for travel between destinations. This week, the Bahraini Interior Ministry confirmed the decision to introduce visa requirements for citizens and residents of the neighboring country who travel to the emirate of the Middle East.
The rationale is “to preserve the integrity of the country,” as Qatar would be offering shelter to fugitives who threaten the security of Bahrain. The Catari nation is still accused of sponsoring terrorism.
In addition to Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt have had their ties weakened with Qatar in recent months. The four countries disrupted direct flights to the country and even deported resident Catharis back to the neighboring nation.
