Cruise company will hold legally recognized on-board marriages between same-sex guests

Celebrity Cruises is proud to announce today that same-sex weddings on board are now legally recognized, marking a landmark historic action by the luxury cruise company.
The motion follows the transformative vote held in Malta, where most of the fleet of Celebrity Cruises is registered, which passed the country’s parliament by 66 votes in favor and only 1 against. The long-awaited referendum gives Celebrity the opportunity to legally recognize same-sex marriages held on board and the captains of the fleet to officiate the ceremonies.
“Celebrity Cruises has a long history of supporting the LGBTQ + community and I can not think of a more important moment in our history than now to do everything we can to support inclusion. I am absolutely thrilled to announce that, from today we have received same-sex couples to get married on our ships while in international waters, “said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises. “That’s noteworthy in the history books!”
“Celebrity Weddings has hosted many same-sex marriages in the US, Mexico, and the Caribbean where it’s legal,” said Barbara Whitehall, Executive Director of The Wedding Experience. “We are in awe of this new ruling from Malta, which guarantees everyone equal rights to marry, and also to all guests who sail with Celebrity Cruises while in international waters.”
The Celebrity Weddings program offers onboard ceremonies and weddings in some heavenly destinations for passionate couples. The Nautical Nuptial at Seas package includes a captain-led ceremony, services of an event coordinator, live music, an hour of photography, cake for two, bottle of champagne, bouquet and lapel for the groom , plus additional romantic amenities after the ceremony.
