Luxury hotel group has historic expansion outside North America

Marriott International posted strong growth in 2017. In the fourth quarter of last year, Marriott operated or franked more than 6,500 hotels and 1,25 million rooms globally, one-third of this number outside of North America. Throughout the year, the company and its franchisees have opened more than 470 hotels, with more than 76,000 rooms worldwide.

In the Caribbean and Latin America region (CALA), there were a record number of contracts signed due to entering new markets and interest in the old Starwood brands. 240 hotels were opened in the region at the end of 2017, totaling 52,569 rooms. In all, 19 of the 30 Marriott International brands are present at CALA, including 46 luxury properties, from The Ritz-Carlton to The Luxury Collection. These properties represent approximately 10% of the company’s global portfolio of luxury hotels. There are a total of 39 Courtyard properties, as well as 29 Marriott properties, of which 30 are Marriott properties.

The company inaugurated 19 new hotels in the region in 2017, providing 2,817 new rooms. There were 37 new contracts signed, of which 17 were for luxury properties.

“Marriott International continued to grow worldwide in 2017 and was no different in the Caribbean and Latin America region, and in the last year alone the new contracts represented a 15% growth compared to the current distribution of hotels in operation,” says Laurent De Kousemaeker, CDO of Marriott International Caribbean and Latin America. “Representing 19 of the 30 Marriott International brands in the region, our broad portfolio enables us to offer hotels for all traveler profiles, serving a wide variety of guests. The Caribbean and Latin America offer options for all tastes, from spectacular oceanfront properties in Yucatan and the Dominican Republic to beautiful units in major cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Santiago. ”
