Trump supports immigration reform with funding for wall

Months after sending a proposal to the US Congress that included several principles for immigration reform, President Donald Trump began negotiating a two-step project. The resolution, which aims to solve the situation of the millions of illegal immigrants in the country, will also address the allocation of resources for the construction of a wall on the US border with Mexico.

According to Efe, Trump defended the two phases of the project, with the first law including its main campaign priorities – including the border wall – while the second, broader, aims to bring a solution to other problems of the migratory system in the USA.

“I will take the [charge] policy, I do not care,” Trump said when asked about the possibility of granting US citizenship to all 11 million individuals who live illegally in the country. Still, the president’s stance on Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s drastic move was not clear.

The reform
At a press conference held on Tuesday afternoon (9), White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders revealed that the meeting resulted in an agreement to negotiate immigration reform. That is, only the first stage of the project. Within it are the replacement of the Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA), new border security measures, the fight against chain migration and the end of the so-called “visa lottery”.

Project implemented by Barack Obama in 2012, the Daca ensured that young people who arrived in the United States during the infantile period were not deported. In September 2017, however, Trump put an end to the measure that protected the so-called “dreamers.” Now, the opposition Democrat runs to approve a law that protects these people, a fact that can win a final chapter already on January 19 in a new meeting.

To approve a new measure that ensures the “dreamers” immigration security, Trump requires a number of trade-offs, including the border wall with Mexico and the end of the “visa lottery”, which benefits individuals from low-income countries. immigrants in the United States. Democrats, on the other hand, see the construction of the wall as unacceptable, which makes negotiations difficult.
