The year is not over yet for Uruguay, it’s just beginning. In December, the summer season begins, along with a series of parties and sporting events that take over the department of Maldonado, moving the already crowded hotel sector. One of the favorite destinations for these events is Punta Del Este, the 2nd largest new year in Latin America, and Piriápolis, which will receive from here until the end of December a multitude of parties and events. And the month of January promises intense programming as well.
Starting with Piriápolis, who prepares to cook the famous “Paella Gigante”, on December 9 from 7:30 p.m. The megaprato is made in a pan that is more than five meters in diameter, where the ingredients are mixed by a backhoe. The gastronomic event, which uses approximately 300 kilos of rice, 700 kilos of seafood, almost 200 seasonings and spices, and 500 liters of broth, receives thousands of visitors each year. While they wait for the dinner they contemplate the sea, landscape view of the improvised kitchen in the edge of the beach of Piriápolis.
The Punta Del Este F1 PowerBoat Grand Prix on December 9 is one of the examples. The main international motonautics competition has rules similar to Formula 1 and is dubbed “F1 of the waters”. Catamaran boats, weighing 390kg made with carbon fiber, with V6 engines of 350cv, will take care of the Bahia of Punta Del Este and promise to bring much emotion to the present public.
For those who prefer sport by land, can contemplate or participate in La Eroica, the second edition of the international event is a race for lovers of classic cycling. Emblematic bikes and their participants will resort, on December 2 and 3, four circuits of the city. The route ends at the La Eroica festival, in the Plaza del Farol in Punta Del Este. They will have foodtrucks, music bands, contests and old bicycle parades.
Uruguayan fashion lovers will be able to enjoy the Pantene Punta Del Este Fashion Show, which will take place in the open air at stop 1 of Mansa Beach, on December 28 for more than 10 thousand people. Several streets near the place will be closed, allowing only pedestrian movement. There will be a parade with production of the country’s great fashion names such as Matilda Blanco and Rosario San Juan.
On December 16, the musical Estravaganza opens. The show that lives up to the ones that are shown in Las Vegas, is an idealization of the Enjoy Conrad resort. The venture bet heavily, including the hiring of the Argentine artistic director of international fame, Flavio Mendoza, who invited to play big names in national entertainment.
