After $ 40 million in renovations, shipping company makes maiden voyage of ship

With a $ 40 million investment in refurbishing the ice ship, the Silver Cloud begins its maiden voyage this week in Buenos Aires. The ultra-luxury model belongs to Silversea, a company represented in Brazil by Pier 1 Cruises Experts, a reference in luxury cruises in the country.
For 16 days, the ship will explore the iceberg sculptures, glaciers, rare wildlife of the Antarctica, while its guests will enjoy spacious accommodations with butler services, open bars and five dining options including the gastronomy of the only restaurant Relais & Châteaux in the sea. “The Silver Cloud will provide a new opportunity for the world’s most discerning travelers, with a thirst for exploring exotic destinations such as Antarctica, with all the refinement and comfort,” said Thiago Vasconcelos, CEO of Pier 1 Cruises Experts.
Silversea CEO Roberto Martinoli praises Silver Cloud’s importance to the company: “We are proud to celebrate this important occasion when the ship that launched Silversea on a road to redefining luxury travel now embarks on a new roadmap to redefine expedition cruises, “he said.
The completely transformed Silver Cloud accommodates 254 people in upgraded suites, most with private balconies. Its elegantly redesigned public spaces include the new Tor’s Observation Lounge offering panoramic views. Other amenities include a heated pool (resort style) with state-of-the-art equipment.
A fleet of 16 Zodiacs enables close exploration, while ten kayaks offer a truly personalized experience of nature in the polar realms. Depending on the region, between 20 and 22 dedicated members of the expedition team will always be ready to share their knowledge and insights, offering lectures in the Multi-tiered Explorer Lounge, workshops, Zodiac and kayak trips, as well as nature walks.
“With that launch, Silversea has established itself as the leader in the luxury cruise ship segment. Its ships offer all the structure to explore the most remote regions of the globe, besides having an experienced team of biologists, geologists and historians on board, which makes each trip a unique experience “, argues Vasconcelos.
After its first season in Antarctica, the Silver Cloud will pass through the rarely seen West Coast of Africa, heading north to Europe and the Norwegian Arctic, where it will pass through bays and glaciers in search of polar bears, whales, walruses and other animals wild animals. He will then make a series of expeditions to Iceland, Greenland, Canada and Central and South America, returning to Ushuaia for another expedition season in Antarctica.
