Caldas Novas, Canela and Fortaleza stand out in international rankings for family travel

Summer is coming to an end in the Northern Hemisphere and the season represented the biggest travel season in Airbnb history. In the last three months – between June 1 and August 31 – about 45 million guests stayed in airbnb-booked homes around the world. Only in Brazil were registered in the period more than 395 thousand arrivals, of these, 75 thousand were from families who reserved their properties by the platform.

The most sought after destination for Brazilian families in the period, which includes the July vacations, was Caldas Novas, Goiás. The city appears in 9th place in the global ranking and first in the list of most visited in Latin America, which also include Canela, in Rio Grande do Sul and Fortaleza, Ceará. The capital of Ceará once again shines among the ones that have grown the most. The city is the only Brazilian to appear in the ranking of new markets in 9th place, with a reserve increase of 19% when compared to the same period of the previous year.

Cities trend for family travel

Family travel continues to grow on Airbnb, which celebrates 8 million group guest arrivals in the last three months. Only in Brazil were registered 75 thousand arrivals of family guests. Based on total reserves of this style, Airbnb raised the most sought after countries by families: the United States, France, Italy and Spain. The platform also noted that families are using Airbnb to explore places with attractions such as amusement parks, zoos, beaches and nature reserves being these some of the most popular destinations:

Compared to the same period in 2016, Airbnb recorded its highest growth in Asia, particularly China. Among the newest and fastest growing markets, Chinese cities in Hangzhou (495%), Chongqing (388%) and Wuhan (371%) were the top three. Fortaleza is the only one on the list, with 192% growth.
