Curitiba Tourism offers guide to help event producers

The Municipal Tourism Institute now offers event producers a guide on the Curitiba lodging industry. Data were collected from 158 hotels in the city – 123 hotels, 18 apartments / apart hotels and 17 hostels.

“This is another tool that we are making available to the market,” says the president of the Institute, Tatiana Turra. The guide is on the site www.turismo.curitiba.pr.gov.br.

The capital of Paraná has 18,929 beds available. Of these, 87% are in hotels, 9% in flats or apart-hotels and 4% in hostels. “The Curitiba hotel offers high-level services at affordable prices, which makes the city very attractive for event producers,” says Tatiana.

The neighborhood with the highest concentration of lodging facilities is the Center, with 72 hotels, flats or apart-hotels and three hostels, which corresponds to 50.63% of the total of the city. Batel comes second with 10.76%. There are 11 hotels, five flats or apart-hotels and one hostel.

The center of the city was chosen by the Spanish network NH Hoteles to install its NH Curitiba The Five, one year ago. Curitiba is also the hub of the network in Brazil, explains the director of the company, Antônio Albuquerque. “The economic relevance of the city of Curitiba and the state of Paraná motivated the decision,” he says.

The movement of the municipal administration to attract more events to the city has brought good results, according to Albuquerque. Held in February this year, the Smart City Expo is an example of success highlighted by the executive. “It was a milestone for us,” he says. “The event directors and several other exhibitors stayed at our hotel and the daily life was quite intense.”

The Curitiba event schedule also brings benefits to the Radisson Hotel, according to services and operations manager, Bruna Beggiora Coelho. “We already have quotations from congresses and conventions until the end of the year,” says Bruna.

The guide for producers is an essential tool in the manager’s view. “It reduces the search time which, for those who organize an event, is very important,” he says.

Curitiba More

In February, Mayor Rafael Greca presented the program More Curitiba for professionals and representatives of the tourism sector. The program consists of several measures to make the city more competitive and attract producers of congresses, fairs and shows.

The first measure adopted was the enactment of Complementary Law No. 107 at the end of 2017. The law reduced the ISS rate from 5% to 2% for congresses, fairs and shows. In addition to the ISS reduction, the program Curitiba Más presents Portaria 3/2018, which regulates the policy to support the performance of concerts and congresses by the municipality.

Another measure is the preparation of a guide of spaces for events, with information to help producers who intend to work in Curitiba. Decree No. 25/2018 allows third parties to use municipal public spaces for specific and transitional activities.
