Discover 4 Czech monuments that shine in winter!

You can visit the Czech Republic in winter or early spring and get in touch with the most numerous castles and palaces, you will see that it is your time. In winter, all relevant works are carried out in these popular, they are touristy for preparation for the next summer season. Anyway, some castles and palaces (famous too) that do not close like doors in the winter.

1. The imperial jewel of Karlštejn

The imposing residence of the Roman Emperor and Czech King Charles IV was built in the 14th century as a Gothic castle, where the jewels of the crown, the sacred remains and national documents were kept. Thanks to its position near Prague, today is a great destination for a half-day excursion. Traveling by train from the center of Prague, you arrive in half an hour to the area below the castle. From February until the end of October, you can also visit Karlštejn’s Treasury exhibition – culture of the imperial court of Charles IV. The castle Karlštejn can be visited in winter only on weekends and in spring every day, except on Mondays. Photographers should go to the castle at dawn, when the castle and the city below it are just waking up and will not be bothered by other visitors. Once you are in Karlštejn, be sure to visit the nearby quarry of Velká Amerika (The Great America). It is an unforgettable and exceptional place to photograph.

2. The neo-Gothic palace Hluboká

The Hluboka palace located in South Bohemia, near the town České Budějovice, is an ideal place for all lovers of history and romance. The palace often considered the most beautiful in the Czech Republic, opens every day, except the second, as well as most of the monuments. Photographers will especially appreciate the interesting non-traditional views of the snow-covered palace of the adjacent landscaped park.

3. The majestic palace of Sychrov

In the northern region of Bohemia is the neo-Gothic palace Sychrov. It is one of the few monuments that opens almost every day of the year to receive visitors; Even on Mondays, when other monuments are usually closed. The tour route will guide you through the palace. On this route, you will know perfectly what life was like in the 19th century in a rural residence of a wealthy aristocratic family. As in all the monuments of the state, here you can also take photos (for your personal purposes) of beautiful neogothic interiors.

4. The palaces of the Lednice-Valtice area

In Southern Moravia, also in winter you can visit several monuments that look great this season. On weekends, you will be greeted with pleasure at the Lednice palace. In the surroundings there is a landscaped park and, after the visit, you can walk through the dams and the river Dyje. Here you can see not only the local genres of waterfowl, but also those who came from northern Europe to spend the winter here. The palace and the adjacent park are part of the extensive landscaped complex and, like the Valtice Palace, are inscribed on UNESCO’s cultural heritage list. If you decide to visit Valtice too, you must know that the Valtice palace does not offer classic visits in the winter, however, on Saturdays you can see the unique baroque theater of the palace and the baroque chapel. At the end of the visit, do not forget to visit the National Wine Hall. In the palace cellars, you can savor the best wines produced in Moravia.
