Egypt confirms participation in WTM Latin America

Fascinating stories, monuments and the mighty Nile River, Egypt will be present at WTM Latin America 2018 – the world’s premier event for the Latin American travel industry. The official Egyptian representative will be arriving in São Paulo from April 3 to 5, at Expo Center Norte, to participate in the 6th edition of the event.

According to Mohamed Mohsen Ismail, director of the Latin American and Iberian Peninsula unit of the international tourism sector of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Council, the objective to be present at the main event of the segment in Latin America is to promote the destination in Brazil and in other countries of South and Central America, in addition to boosting networking and business generation with tourism operators and analyzing global trends in the sector.

“WTM Latin America is one of the most important events in the region and we hope that the 2018 edition will be a success as in previous years. For Egypt, Latin America is a market of great potential, since tourists in the region usually have the capacity for long-stay travel, “says the director.

During the three days of the event, visitors will have the opportunity to know a little more about the main attractions of the region. This year will be shown the Cultural Tourism, exposing Luxor, Aswan and Cairo, as well as the Sun & sea route, which includes the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea and the route of the Holy Family.

By increasing investment in airports and security, Egypt has been able to leverage the number of visitors. “In 2017 we had a 56% increase in the number of tourists in Latin America, compared to the previous year,” Ismail comments. The World Travel & Tourism Council expects that the country will receive more than 12,000 international tourists by 2027, representing a 10% increase per year.

According to the WTTC, investment in the tourism sector in Egypt accounted for about 11.9% of GDP (Domestic Product Group) in 2016 and is expected to reach 12.4% over the next ten years.

“Egypt is already a traditional partner of WTM Latin America and its participation in the 6th edition of the event further strengthens the region for tourists from Latin America, especially Brazil, which is one of the focus of investment in the region,” said Luciane Leite, director general of WTM Latin America.
