Eight cities in Mato Grosso do Sul rise in category in Tourism Map

The Ministry of Tourism has updated the categorization of the municipalities that make up the Brazilian Tourism Map. This instrument is important to monitor the performance of the tourism economy in the municipalities and also serves as a guide to the sector’s policies and directing federal funds.

According to the new categorization, eight municipalities in Mato Grosso do Sul had economic growth in the sector – Alcinópolis, Aparecida do Taboado, Figueirão, Paraíso das Águas, Porto Murtinho, São Gabriel do Oeste, Sonora, Vicentina – either because they increased the number of jobs through tourism, expanded formal lodging establishments or the flow of domestic and international tourists.

“The improvement in the classification of eight destinations shows that our municipalities have been working more and more to strengthen tourism activity. Regarding the Ministry of Tourism we are attentive to the demands of the sector as infrastructure improvement, legalization and qualification of services, “said Tourism Minister, Marx Beltrão.

Aparecida do Taboado, Porto Murtinho, São Gabriel do Oeste and Sonora went to category C and the other four destinations for classification D. Mato Grosso do Sul also stands out among the Brazilian states for having had no municipality with a reduction in its categories.

It is important to emphasize that categorization is a dynamic and perennial process that, like the Brazilian Tourism Map, should be updated and improved periodically.

MTUR SUPPORT – Second Ministerial Order 39/2017 of the MTur, only municipalities classified as ‘A’ and ‘D’ may seek support for events that generate tourism flow. All municipalities – from A to E -, are able to plead for infrastructure resources, such as construction of roads and highways of tourist interest; river and lake terminals and terminals; reform of inter-municipal and interstate road terminals, airports, railways and railway stations of tourist interest; tourist signs, among others.
