Events not to be missed in the Czech Republic

In 2018 the Czech Republic celebrates the centenary of its foundation and there are great celebrations prepared, among interesting events, sports, musical festivals or cinematographic. Check out:

Czech and Slovak celebrate 100th anniversary of its founding
The year 2018 has extraordinary significance for the Czech Republic – 100 years ago, on October 28, 1918, the independent Czechoslovakia emerged. It is not surprising, therefore, that it is a year full of festivities, exhibitions and interesting events. A large part of them will take place in Prague. From the Castle of Bratislava, the Czech-Slovak Exhibition (the exhibition will be from spring) will arrive in Prague in October whose theme is the common history of both states and all the important events that took place on their territory. The full name of the event is Founded in 1918.

The National Gallery has prepared the series of exhibitions of the First Republic and the National Technical Museum will also offer an interesting program. In October begins the exhibition Made in Czechoslovakia / what the industry has brought to the world. The exhibition characterizes the technical and industrial evolution of the independent Czechoslovak state throughout its existence.

The city Brno has also prepared great events. The foundation of Czechoslovakia and the history of ninety years of the Brno fairground will be celebrated from June 1 to 17, 2018, through the public project “Re: 1918-2018”, with the subtitle BRNO.LIDÉ.STOLETÍ. (BRNO, PEOPLE, CENTURY.) You can visit two exhibitions. The one that will have the name of “100 years Re: public (1918-2018)” will be a continuation of the exhibition of the year of 1928 that celebrated the tenth anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia. The Avant-Garde exhibition, on the other hand, will familiarize its visitors with contemporary architecture, design and craftsmanship.

The city of Ostrava is also preparing to celebrate the founding of Czechoslovakia. The festivities will start in May and culminate on October 28 with a great event. The city will publish a book in honor of this anniversary, it also has several acts planned. The Ostrava Museum is preparing an exhibition dedicated to life in Ostrava in the period 1918-2018.

Liberec intends to organize the exhibition of all honorary citizens of the City. In Liberec there will also be a thematic day in honor of October 28, 1918.

Pilsen also prepared for 2018 a series of interesting events in honor of the hundredth anniversary of the founding of independent Czechoslovakia. This important anniversary will be reflected in the dramaturgy of traditional events in the city that will culminate in October 2018, with two days of commemoration of the birth of the Republic to be held in Pilsen.

Sport
The Sportisimo ½ Prague Marathon (7.4) will take place this year for the twentieth time. This race is very popular not only for the fabulous views along the route, but especially for its participants – runners from Kenya and Ethiopia – as well as beginners. The racing season in the Czech Republic culminates with Pražský marathon (Prague Marathon) (5 – 6.5), with the last leg in the Old Town Square.
Brno Grand Prix – (3 – 5.8) Czech Grand Prix for road motorcycle on the Masarykův circuit in Brno has been for several years among the most important and most visited sporting events in the Czech Republic. It is part of a series of World Road Motorcycle (MotoGP) races. This year there will also be the Czech Republic Grand Prix – the Speedway Grand Prix motorcycle world championship. At the Markéta stadium, you will not only be able to see the best world riders on the flat track, but also the future stars of this sport.

The Zlatá tretra race in Ostrava (13.6) is an international athletic meeting with tradition and prestige, of which the best athletes in the world participate regularly. It is the meeting with the most history in Europe and this year will be held for the 57th time.

Music
The international festival of classical music Prague Spring (12.5 – 3.6) every year delights the life of classical music lovers throughout Prague for almost the entire month of May. If you prefer any other musical genre, visit the international festival of various genres Colors of Ostrava (18-21.7). There you will be captivated not only by the musical groups but also by the uniqueness of the Dolní Vítkovice environment in Ostrava. Another festival is called Smetanova Litomyšl (14.6 – 7.7) and is one of the largest regularly held festivals in the Czech Republic. This year is number 60 and the festival will offer not only great musical experiences, but also a rich accompaniment program. The International Music Festival in Český Krumlov will offer, as traditionally, concerts not only classical music in the area of ​​the Castle and Palace of Český Krumlov (20.7 – 11.8).

The year 2018 will also be rich in great concerts. In April, you can also see in Metallica (2.4), Imagine Dragons (16.4), Gregory Porter (23.4) or two shows by the legendary Roger Waters (27 and 28.4). On May 8, Spanish pop star Enrique Iglesias will arrive in Prague to celebrate his 43rd birthday. On May 9, the legendary Boby McFerrin, performing in Ostrava the following day, will perform at the Karlín Forum in Prague. American singer Anastacia (12.5) will also have a concert at Forum Karlín. In addition, Ringo Starr will be at the Prague Congress Center (19.6), Ozzy Osbourne backed by the Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, Joe Perry) at Letňany’s Prague Airport (13.6) and a week later, Iron Maiden will get there.

Movie theater
The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (29.6 – 7.7) is a true jewel in the Czech Republic’s cinematography. This year’s most important personalities from all over the Republic will also come to Karlovy Vary to enjoy not only excellent movies here, but especially that exceptional atmosphere that has contributed so much worldwide popularity to this film festival.
If you prefer documentaries, do not miss the International Documentary Film Festival in Jihlava (25 – 30. 10). You will surely love the Slavonian music and film festival fest (1 – 5.8) or the summer film school in Uherské hradiště (27.7 – 5.8).
