Jamaica has 50% growth and attracts Brazilians

After 2017 represents a year of uncertainties due to the economic recession that devastated the country, the number of Brazilians in Jamaica has grown again and the outlook for the coming months is still optimistic. According to the Tourism Office of the country, only in the high season, in comparison with the same period last year, the registered growth was 50% of the Brazilian arrivals.

“Although last year did not start well, thanks to the Olympics and the charisma of our greatest athlete, Usain Bolt, it was possible to perceive the return of Brazilians’ interest in destiny”, explains the representative in Brazil of the Jamaica Tourist Board, Luciana Alonso. The spokeswoman also points out that the stabilization of the dollar and also the attractions in Casa Jamaica during the sporting event, which trained more than 400 travel agents, helped in the resumption of interest by Brazilians.

In figures, Luciana reveals, during the high season, more than 600 Brazilians are expected per month, without regard to cross-border visitors. “Considering that it is a small island, with less than three million inhabitants, it is a relatively high number,” he points out.

The representative also points out that the second half of the year, despite representing the period of low season, will still be positive. “For 2017 as a whole, the growth of Brazilians on the island will be at the margin of 35%.”

Just behind the United States and Canada, Brazil is one of the main emitters of visitors to the country. With a total of 28 thousand beds for visitors, Luciana points out that by the middle of 2018 the number should jump to 32 thousand with future inaugurations. “Hotels with international flags are already showing up at our top destinations, such as Kingston, Montego Bay and Negril, as well as planning revitalizations to better accommodate visitors,” he explains.

Among the target groups, although different types of visitors seek the destination for its beaches, gastronomy and culture, the destination also targets the growing interest in weddings and corporate travelers who also find in the destination the opportunity to extend the stay with leisure . “Since 2012 we are a destination on the rise for Brazilians and reasons to continue growing, there is no shortage”, he concludes.
