A TSA spokesman told Reuters that the US government suspended the restrictions during an official visit to King Abdulaziz airport, located in Jeddah, on Monday, and that government officials will also visit King Khalid airport. Riyadh this week to extend to him the permission to laptops.

The restrictions began in March this year, when the United States Department of Security (DHS) banned nine airlines – Egypt Air, Emirates Airlines, Etihad Airways, Kuwait Airways, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Turkish Airlines.

Then there were rumors that the restriction would involve a total of 71 airports, but the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) and the US Travel Association issued a letter calling on the government to reconsider the rules, as they could have consequences ) Disastrous.

“We question the fact that these measures are really effective in combating the risk of terrorist attacks,” GBTA Chief Executive Michael Mc Cormick said in a statement issued at the time. Subsequently, affected airlines were informed that they could circumvent the ban on laptops by adopting more stringent screening protocols and using more sophisticated scanning equipment.

The United States began removing airlines from the forbidden list earlier this month as they adapted their review processes to the new rules of the US Department of Homeland Security.
