Number of Brazilian tourists in Portugal increases 60% in the first half

Brazil is becoming more and more consolidated as the fastest growing market for Turismo de Portugal. According to data from the Portuguese National Statistics Institute (INE), the number of Brazilian tourists increased by 60% in the first half of this year, compared to the same period of the previous year. Although it is the fifth largest emitter of tourists in Portugal , The growth presented by Brazil is by far the most representative among the main markets

The number of overnight stays also had a considerable increase of 55%, also well ahead of other markets. If the trend of growth is maintained, the year 2017 will be the largest number of Brazilian tourists in Portugal, surpassing the 624 thousand last year.

“The growth of Brazilian tourists is spectacular, because the cultural and social ties that the two countries carry make our relationship even more special in tourism. It is our goal to attract more and more Brazilians, to invite them to know an authentic and genuine country, and I am sure that this growth does not stop here, “says Bernardo Cardoso, director of Turismo de Portugal in Brazil. Among all regions, Lisbon remains the most sought by Brazilians, but the highest growth is observed in the Azores. The number of tourists in the archipelago tripled in the first half of this year.

“The advance of tourism in the Azores shows that the Brazilian is expanding horizons when visiting Portugal, also discovering the islands. It is a destination that brings from beautiful beaches to practice surfing to active volcanoes, a unique gastronomy and very welcoming people, “says Bernardo Cardoso.
