Peru was voted Best Green Destination at the 2017 World Travel Awards South America, announced at a ceremony in the Riviera Maya in Mexico. “Peru is a country of biodiversity, and our promotion actions have been concentrating on spreading our destiny in this segment at an international level. This award confirms that the commercial chain from all over the world is recognizing our nature offer, which is complemented by that of history and culture, “said Marisol Acosta, Director of Tourism of PROMPERÚ (Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism ).
Another recognition of Peru’s performance with regard to its actions to promote tourism worldwide is that PROMPERÚ won the award for Best Tourism Office in South America for the second consecutive year. The country was ahead of Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil and Chile. It is worth remembering that the South American region represents 56% of the total international arrivals to Peru.
In addition, the private sector also took several awards, proving the commitment of businessmen to make tourism in Peru a reference. The hotel industry and tourism services of the Peruvian private sector have also been recognized in the following categories: Best Business Hotel in South America: Swissotel Lima; Best Airport Hotel: Costa del Sol Lima Aisport; Best Hotel & Casino Resort in South America: Los Delfines Hotel; Best Resort in South America: Inka Tambo a Luxury Collection; Best Travel Agency in South America: Costamar; Best Private Executive Airline: ATSA
The winners of the South American edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) will compete in the world edition of the award, which will be held on December 10 in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. The World Travel Awards is considered the “Oscar of Tourism”, according to the prestigious American newspaper The Wall Street Journal. They have over 20 years of experience recognizing and celebrating excellence in all sectors of the travel and tourism industry around the world. The winners are chosen thanks to public voting on the Internet and voting by industry experts globally.
