Places to celebrate the Corpus Christi holiday

Many people like to observe and participate in parties and decorations for the holiday of Corpus Christi, independent of religions. It has long been a tradition in Brazil to decorate the streets on this date, with religious symbols for the blessing of all.

Here are some of the cities with the most beautiful decorations by the date of Corpus Christi:

Matão/SP

A little over 300 km away from the capital, it is the traditional destination for the feasts of Corpus Christi. Every year, the procession begins at 4 o’clock and finishes at 4 o’clock, where residents, artists and visitors gather to assemble the carpet on the main road of the city. It is formed by 70 tons of materials, among them, flowers, glass, sand and sawdust.

The festival also features crafts fair, musical performances and sales and flower displays.

Santana de Parnaíba/SP

A city of interior, but a little closer to the capital, being able to make day trips. The city is traditional in relation to festivity.

The program begins early with the assembly of the carpet that extends in the main roads of the city, also having special masses throughout the day, in the church hue.

Paraty/RJ

Although it is not a beach climate at this time, the charming streets of Paraty are even more beautiful and ornate. The procession passes with all the charm and beauty of a summer day. Eventually, with festivals that stir up the holiday festivity even more.

Mariana/MG

A city with a huge religious tradition since the 18th century, anxiously awaited by tourists and locals at this time of year, in order to see the party taking place. With the end of the day, there is a mass, and the procession follows the beautiful traditional carpet that stretches along the main streets.

Ouro Preto/MG

Ouro preto is 98 km from the capital of Minas Gerais, a city of great tradition as well, its cobblestone streets give spaces to many churches. As usual the procession goes out through the streets adorned by the traditional rug, and in the course are given three Eucharistic Blessings.

Pirenópolis/GO

About 130 km from Goiânia, the celebration begins the day before, with the making of the carpet in the streets. The procession takes place at dawn and the days that the festivities take place, are marked by the Cavalhadinhas, theatrical representations made by children, staging the medieval tournaments that took place in the city.
