Cod reigns on Christmas Eve in Lisbon, as well as roasted turkey, which may or may not be stuffed. Also eat the roasted kid and the old clothes, which is the use of Cod, potatoes and vegetables of the supper and make a saute with plenty of olive oil and garlic, all mixed. For dessert, there are all kinds of sweets: french toast, a, sweet rice, christmas trunk, king cake and broas.

Cod is undoubtedly the king of Christmas. Commonly, cod is cooked along with the accompaniments, among them the most common are potatoes, eggs, greens (which look like our broccoli), cabbages and carrots, which are generously watered with good Portuguese olive oil.
The tradition of this dish remains from the times when the Catholic Church imposed the fast during religious festivals, prohibiting the consumption of meat, and giving a prominent place to cod.

Besides cod, the turkey also holds a special place in the Christmas tables, as in Brazil. It is usually stuffed with a rich mix of kids, meats, bread and various seasonings.
This custom originated in the United States of America and arrived in Europe by the hand of the Spanish people. Tasteful, the Christmas turkey was quickly adopted by the Europeans, making it one of the most traditional and important dishes for the Christmas celebrations.

The roast kid in the oven is one of the most popular dishes for Christmas day lunch.
In older times, the traditional goat was prepared in a wood-fired oven that made the delights of all. Nowadays, and by this method is not so frequent, the absence of the flavor that comes from the wood oven is compensated with all the seasonings and aromas from garlic, laurel, white wine, olive oil, rosemary and rosemary, where the kid is marinated before going to the oven.

And the leftovers, what to do with the leftovers? With what remains of the cod and its accompaniments, what is called “old clothing” is a dish made from shredded cod with chopped vegetables, garlic, olive oil and also eggs.
