Silversea, an expert in cruise luxury expeditions, represented in Brazil by Pier 1 Cruise Experts, introduced the new My Photo Academy, which will sail across Antarctica aboard the Silver Cloud, using the ship’s photographic studio as central point for the program.

With enchanting landscapes and wildlife as a backdrop, guests will have the chance to elevate their photographic skills by learning how to capture and edit images like a pro.

“Our new photography program is perfect for the immersion expeditions we offer in Antarctica,” says Conrad Combrink, Silversea’s senior vice president of strategic expedition and expedition development. “Traveling to the ends of the earth is a unique experience full of magical moments that we hope will help our guests capture beautiful photos that would make them happy to show off in their homes or offices.”

With private and group lessons, guests can learn to master the art of digital photography through the Academy, which will provide specialized workshops for beginners and professionals. Among the topics studied are: introduction to photography; social media; and how to use the Adobe® Lightroom® and Photoshop® editing tools.

“Today, more than ever, photos are part of our day-to-day life. These are the tools we use to show how we see the world and the experiences we live in. Silversea offers its clients the possibility of expanding their knowledge about this art “said Thiago Vasconcelos, executive director of Pier 1 Cruise Experts, a Silversea representative in Brazil and a reference in luxury cruises.

Photographic studio

The photo studio is a creative space with modern MAC and PC equipment, including high-quality printers, available for fee use, for guests who want to create their postcards or take home their printed photographs – including panorama format and size A2.

With the help of a professional, guests can learn and practice their imaging skills with state-of-the-art equipment and schedule private 20-minute meetings with an expert in image editing to aid in smart gear recommendations; instructions for proper use of the camera; camera menu options and help with social media and posts (Facebook and Instagram).

The intimate Silver Cloud accommodates only 200 guests, contains a fleet of 16 inflatable boats that give the opportunity for close exploration, and 10 kayaks that offer a true personalized experience amidst the polar waters. Twenty or more dedicated members of the expedition team will always be on hand to share their knowledge through lectures in the Explorer lounge and workshops and guide kayak trips and inflatable boats and nature trails – all complimentary services. Expeditions to Antarctica take place from November to February.
