The paradisiacal settings of the Madeira Archipelago are falling in the taste of the tourists of Brazil. In 2017, data from the National Institute of Statistics of Portugal showed that the destination had a total of 30,200 nights of Brazilian tourists, a figure that represents a 34.6% growth compared to the previous year. The region, which has an old tradition in tourism, its main economic activity, won for the third consecutive time as the best island destination in the world in the WTA last year. In 2017 alone, overall spending was equivalent to € 407.4 million. However, the natural beauties of the Madeira Archipelago are still news for travelers from Brazil. “Last year we started a strong promotion and promotion of Madeira in this market and we are already getting great results from this bet,” explains Roberto Santa Clara, executive director of the Madeira Promotion Association.
In the last year, the islands received more than 1.16 million foreign guests, which represents about 9.2% of the total in Portugal. The whole country also celebrates the results of 2017, when more than 12 million foreign guests were on Portuguese soil, 869,200 of them from Brazil, 39% more than in 2016.
