Company creates program to boost innovation in the travel industry

The travel industry is moving toward increased customization, while merchandising techniques encourage new revenue and business opportunities. Travelers expect brands to know them and adapt their offers accordingly.

It is in contrast to this background that Amadeus announces the creation of a program dedicated to boosting the industrialization of the NDC and ensuring its success to all travel players.

The New Distribution Capability (NDC), created by IATA, is an XML-based data transmission standard and also a great promise to the travel industry by enabling travel companies – from airlines to travel agents – to evolve in terms distribution of travel and merchandising.

With that in mind, the NDC-X program will bring together experts from every Amadeus business and will focus on practical use cases of the standard, adopting a testing and learning approach to deliver enhanced capabilities to the industry. The NDC-X program is a continuation of Amadeus’ previous work towards industry digitization and the creation of commercial possibilities to be built on the NDC.

Gianni Pisanello, who has held several leadership positions in Amadeus airline business in both IT and distribution, will lead the new NDC-X program.

“We are at a critical time in terms of developing industry standard and readiness,” says Gianni Pisanello, VP, NDC-X Program. “For NDC to take off, we need to create a real standard not only for the protocol itself, but also for the way it is implemented. We also need to ensure that it meets the requirements of the travel vendor and that it has the right economic aspects to foster investments “At Amadeus, we recognize our responsibility to make NDC work for all travel players, and that is what we will do through our NDC-X program.”
