Cruise Company Launches Partnership to Reduce Rows

Royal Caribbean promises impeccable management of the time its cruise ship passengers aboard Oasis class with the new system launched in partnership with Microsoft. Based on the “Internet of Things” concept, the system connects more than 650 devices within the vessels, divided into various platforms, such as totems, tablets and televisions, to orchestrate the customers’ experience.

The proposal is something that sounds simple, but it gets tricky when it comes to thousands of people on a cruise in the middle of the ocean: manage activities so cruiseers enjoy the most of their time on board. In this way, it is possible, through the new system, to make reservations at bars, restaurants, spa sessions, shows and other attractions.

“We have more than 2,300 professionals working in different areas aboard our cruises,” says Royal Caribbean Technology Analyst Jason Miller. “We wanted a solution that would eliminate the amount of time this information gets to them.”

The Microsoft product integrates Royal Caribbean’s photo service so passengers can see their images on different devices.

“Heavy systems, manual processes and fragmented data have been in the past, and now the passenger is well on their agenda with a variety of devices,” said a statement from Royal Caribbean.
