Learn how to enjoy New Orleans, which will be 300 years old

Different destinations are susceptible to natural disasters such as the one that has afflicted Texas. With even greater destruction, New Orleans, also in the United States, not only managed to recover from Hurricane Katrina but also to resume tourist flow: according to a survey by the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau, more than 10.5 million visitors in 2016 , an absolute record.

For those interested in visiting the city recovered, and that next year will be 300 years, check out some tips.

WHERE TO EAT AND DRINK?

For over 200 years the town is popular for its sophisticated dining and drinks. There are numerous bars, restaurants, artisanal breweries among other virtually exclusive New Orleans specialties. Option is what does not lack for the most different tastes.

For those who want to taste the local flavors, you can try the New Orleans version of Bloody Mary, which can be tasted along with spicy beans, okra, celery, olives, tomatoes or bacon in traditional establishments such as Elizabeth’s, La Petite Grocery or Atchafalaya.

WHAT TO DO?

Without including gastronomy, one of the things that is not lacking in the city are the entertainment options. Inspired by pagan celebrations, the time of Mardi Gras is the most popular in the city. The festival, which runs from mid-January to Tuesday of Carnival, concentrates not only the locals, but revelers from all over the world.

But it’s not just Mardi Gras that New Orleans delivers fun to its visitors. With partying options – such as the weekly DJ Soul Sister show at Hi-Ho Lounge – there are family options, such as the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Vietnamese market.

WHERE TO STAY?

For those who still have doubts, the city is very hospitable and has several options of accommodation – from collaborative to historic hotels. To better enjoy the city, the ideal is to stay in alternative places.

Although the French Quarter is the main choice of visitors, it is possible to find places according to the preference of each visitor. The Upper Quarter, near Canal Street, is the busiest. Already the lower quarter, near Marigny, is quieter. But for the visitor who wants a more upscale lodging, there are still the four star Hotel Monteleone.
