New York and Cape Town partner to increase travel between the two cities

NYC & Company, the official destination marketing body of New York City, has joined Cape Town’s tourism industry to sign an agreement to increase tourist flow between the two destinations. NYC & Company President and CEO Fred Dixon and the CEO of Cape Town’s official travel agency, Enver Duminy, signed the treaty in New York last week.

The two-year partnership includes a collaborative agreement between the two organizations, the sharing of best practices and the exchange of resources to boost reciprocal travel.

This is the first commitment of its kind that NYC & Company has signed with a destination marketing organization on the African continent.

Measures

The partnership between the cities includes an exchange of marketing and advertising actions for the beginning of 2018. In the American city, the ads will be displayed at LinkNYC bus and kiosk points to promote Cape Town, reaching an estimated 17, 6 million views. In Cape Town, the advertising equivalent of New York will be exposed on digital and external media.

“New York and Cape Town have a lot in common because they are cultural, gastronomic and design capitals. We intend to cultivate this productive partnership for tourism next year, “said Dixon.

As part of the agreement, New York and Cape Town will share good tourism management practices in order to increase the number of tourists between the two markets in future years. The two organizations will also seek joint ventures.

Numbers

South Africa is the largest African tourist market in New York with almost 50,000 visitors in 2015. The country accounts for almost 30% of the share of African visitors in the North American destination. The United States is the second largest market for tourists to Cape Town. By 2015, 30% of the landings in the South African city from the US have departed from or passed through New York airports.

“This announcement is the result of years of work, but in the end it was clear that New York is the perfect city to partner with Cape Town,” added Duminy.
