With duplication, Régis Bittencourt becomes an alternative to travel to the south coast of São Paulo

Arteris Régis Bittencourt delivered and released to traffic on December 19, 2017 the last 10 kilometers of duplication of Serra do Cafezal – heart of Régis Bittencourt Highway (BR-116) and main link between the South and Southeast regions from the country.

With this, the 30.5 kilometers of the Serra are duplicated and will be essential for the improvement of the traffic and safety conditions of the stretch, impacting directly on the economy and tourism of the Ribeira Valley, on the paulista, paranaense and Santa Catarina coasts, and the 17 cities connected by Arteris Régis Bittencourt.

“We believe that the delivery of this last stretch of Serra do Cafezal has changed the level of Arteris Régis Bittencourt in terms of safety and traffic flow, making it a good alternative as a tourist route. We have incredible destinations all along the route and with the works, we offer more comfort to the users of the stretch, “says Nelson Bossolan, director-superintendent of Arteris Régis Bittencourt.

Alternate Paths

The four tunnels and 39 bridges and viaducts delivered by Arteris Régis Bittencourt have cleared the region’s traffic, making the highway a safe route for tourists wishing to travel in search of tourist attractions, such as Caverna do Diabo, in the municipality of Eldorado (SP). the beautiful beaches of Ilha do Mel (PR), and the trendy Santa Catarina coast.

Another possibility that opens with the improvements of the conditions of the stretch is the access to the beaches of the south of São Paulo, such as Peruíbe, Ilha Comprida, Ilha do Cardoso and Cananeia, mainly on holidays and during the summer. The route from the Center of São Paulo to Peruíbe, for example, by Arteris Régis Bittencourt, is 166 km, little more than the distances of the paths via Serra do Mar.

For tourists in the cities of Southwest São Paulo, the trip can be even faster than the Serra do Mar. For example, if the driver leaves Sorocaba and choose to make the way through São Paulo and via Arteris Régis Bittencourt, he will travel 5 km less than the paths of the Serra do Mar.

24 hour customer service

The Concessionaire also provides customer service services such as medical and mechanical assistance, traffic inspection and 24-hour care via 0800.

The traffic monitoring system also has Closed Circuit TV (CCTV), with the operation of more than 200 cameras. In addition, the monitoring system includes two weather stations, eight fixed panels and six mobile panels (PMV) for user alert messages.

The resources for service such as winches, ambulance teams and traffic inspection are distributed on the highway at strategic locations to ensure efficient attendance in case of emergencies. At various points along the highway, travelers also have Operational Bases with bathrooms, water, coffee and a changing room.

In the social network Twitter (@Arteris_ARB), it informs in real time the conditions of traffic, weather and other information of the highway, allowing the users a more tranquil and planned trip.

Safety

Arteris has voluntarily joined the UN Decade of Action for Traffic Safety, which aims to reduce by 50% the number of fatal road accident victims between 2011 and 2020.

As of 2010, Arteris Régis Bittencourt recorded a 57% reduction in the number of fatalities on the highway. In that year, 196 fatalities were registered, compared to 83 registered in 2017.

Specifically in the Serra do Cafezal, where the more sinuous stretches of Arteris Régis Bittencourt are located, there is also a decrease – a 15% reduction in the general percentage of accidents and 80% of fatalities for the same period.
