Air transport platform launches operations in Mexico City

Imagine flying overhead traffic while on the way to work. This would be the realization of the dreams of all those facing a common routine in Mexico City (CDMX), where congestion can be unbearable. The high flow of cars and the miles of congestion that runs through the city generate millions of dollars of damage to the local economies annually. In addition to the financial impact, we know that the problem has a real and negative effect on people’s health. A 2012 study by the University of Washington in Saint Louis revealed that long, constant congestion is associated with chronic stress, high blood pressure, and weight gain.

This week Voom announced the launch of its on-demand helicopter reservation platform in Mexico City, which will allow city residents to fly over traffic and make up for lost time. The capital of Mexico is the second city in the world to receive the services of Voom, after São Paulo, in Brazil. In partnership with Airbus Helicopters, Voom has created one of the world’s first helicopter reservation platforms, providing travelers the ultimate in comfort and reliability in the most affordable way to date. Passengers can book a flight and take off in just 60 minutes or plan their trip up to seven days in advance.

Voom is available in the most convenient locations in the city, such as the Radio Capital region and Interlomas, as well as Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Toluca International Airport. Undoubtedly, one of the most popular routes will consist of the points of the Ural Mountains for the AICM, allowing customers to spend only 10 minutes from one place to another in the city instead of wasting almost two hours on a land route, which usually occurs at peak times.

Mexico City was a natural choice as the second location to launch Voom services. Residents and visitors of the city can confirm that it is one of the most congested locations in the world. In addition, Mexico City already has a significant infrastructure for helicopter services with more than 200 heliports in the metropolitan area and, working with local aeronautical authorities, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC), it was clear that Mexican regulators recognize that digital platforms are needed to provide more efficient transportation options. Mexico also has air traffic control dedicated to helicopters, which allows even more efficient air travel.

Voom is the ideal company to face the challenge of urban air mobility in Mexico City. We already have the knowledge and resources to provide a viable solution to the helicopter reservation in the current market. We could not be more excited to bring an alternative and necessary transportation option to this part of the world, “says Uma Subramanian, CEO of Voom.
