Brazil is finalist in sustainability award

For the third time, and for the second consecutive year, Brazil is a finalist of the WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Award for organizations and establishments that adopt best environmental practices. Representing the country in the “Community Award” category, the Mamirauá Institute of Sustainable Development, located in the state of Amazonas, competes with two other institutes: one from South Africa and the other from India.

Organized by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the contest reaches its 14th year, strengthening commercial practices of the highest standards that balance the needs of “people, planet and profits” in the tourism sector. There are 15 finalists, divided into five categories.

For the president of Embratur, Vinicius Lummertz, the statement confirms that Brazil is in line with the sustainable actions adopted by major global companies. The winners of the awards will be announced during a ceremony to be held at the 18th WTTC Global Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on April 18 and 19.

Institute of Sustainable Development Mamirauá

The Mamirauá Institute is a research unit of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications and was created in April 1999. Its mission is “to promote scientific research on the biodiversity, management and conservation of the natural resources of the Amazon in a participatory and sustainable way “. It has around 400 professionals, among employees, scholarship holders and trainees. It is considered the largest reserve in the world for protection of flooded areas.
