Overnight stays of Brazilian tourists in the Alentejo grow 37.5% in the first half

With impressive landscapes, award-winning wines and countless historical monuments, Alentejo is increasingly becoming a tourist destination for Brazilian travelers. According to data released by the National Statistics Institute of Portugal, in the first half of 2017, Brazil had 27,500 overnight stays in the Portuguese region, a 37.5% increase compared to the same period of last year.

With this result, Brazil is the market with the highest percentage of overnight growth in Alentejo, followed by Spain and Ireland, with 24.9% and 21.7% respectively. Currently, the Brazilian market remains the third largest emitter of tourists to the region.

According to Vitor Silva, president of the Alentejo Tourism Promotion Agency, the data confirm the investment of the entity in actions aimed at the Brazilian market. “We recognize that this is a priority market and that Brazilian travelers want to discover the wide offer of Alentejo. We are a complete region, with options ranging from luxury and rich gastronomic offer to historic, cultural and outdoor activities, “he explains.

Still in the first six months of 2017, the region registered 253,700 overnight stays of foreign tourists, an increase of 14.6% compared to 2016. Overall visitor spending in the Portuguese region increased by 19.4%, reaching a collection Of € 38.8 million.

In the same period, Portugal received 410,600 guests from Brazil, an increase of 60.3% compared to 2016. Today, Brazilians account for 7.2% of the total number of foreign guests received in the country.

“These results express the work of dissemination together with our partners, with constant presence in industry fairs, important events and training with travel agents promoted by our office,” explains Silva.
