São Paulo received 2.5 million foreigners last year

Largest city and financial center in South America, São Paulo has undeniable importance for Brazil, especially in the economic aspect. But how much is remembered in tourist terms? A much more emitting than receptive market (at least in Leisure), the São Paulo capital had the numbers of visitors revealed today by SPTuris, in a survey done jointly with the SPCVB, with support from the Brazilian Union of Trade Fairs Promoters (Ubrafe) and collaboration of Other business entities.

Called “São Paulo: City of the World – Facts and Facts of Business, Events, Travel and Tourism in the State of São Paulo”, the dossier gives the dimension of Tourism in the city throughout the year 2016. They were, in all, 14, 9 million tourists arrived last year (including those coming by car from nearby cities), of which 12.4 million (84%) are Brazilian and 2.5 million (16%) are foreigners.

 

Taking into account that, according to the Ministry of Tourism, the whole of Brazil received 6.6 million foreign tourists, it can be deduced that 37.8% of all international visitors who came to Brazil last year passed through the city of São Paulo.

 

These people handled an estimated amount of R $ 11.4 billion, which represents 2% of the city’s GDP. Compared to the national scenario, national tourism corresponds to 9.6% of the Brazilian GDP.

 

EMITORS

The main international emitters of tourists to São Paulo are: Argentina, United States, France, Spain and Germany.

 

Already nationally, the survey highlights Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro and MInas Gerais. Finally, within the State itself, the cities of Santos, São José dos Campos, Campinas, Ribeirão Preto and Sorocaba stand out.
