São Paulo receives gastronomic title

The day yesterday (18) was a party for Brazil at the booth of the Ministry of Tourism at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, Spain. The space was the stage of the award of the title ‘Latin American Capital of Gastronomic Culture’ to São Paulo, a recognition of the quality and diversity of gastronomy in São Paulo.

The title was delivered by the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Alberto Alves, to the Brazilian ambassador in Madrid, Antônio José Ferreira Simões.

Gastronomy is one of the items most appreciated by international tourists visiting the country. According to a survey conducted by Pasta, more than 95% of the foreigners who visited Brazil in 2016 approved the gastronomy. The positive evaluation is even greater if we did a evaluation cut by city – the gastronomy of São Paulo was approved by 97.5% of international tourists in the same year.

The Minister of Tourism of Argentina, Gustavo Santos and the president of the Iberoamerican Academy of Gastronomy, Rafael Anson, also participated in the presentation.
