See global trend destinations for 2018 – Brazilian beaches are on the list

Another year is coming to an end and now all the attention is directed to the next to come, with 365 days in white, offering numerous possibilities, including for those who want to plan an incredible vacation. With that in mind, Airbnb did an analysis based on the reservation data for the first half of 2018, with which it can already predict its best year, with more announcements, Experiences and new destinations to explore. Predictions show what is expected to be a trend, and evidence that users are inclined to seek nature retreats, beach destinations and live shows next year.

The trend destinations include cities such as the Midwest of the United States (Indianapolis), the Brazilian coast (Matinhos, Guarapari and Ubatuba), alpine retreats (Fernie, Canada) and bustling beach (Bournemouth, UK)
Guests book more non-traditional houses such as log cabins (700% growth), ryokan – traditional Japanese hostels (600% growth) and yurts – tents – (155% growth)
Gastronomic Experiences are the most popular, with 29% of the bookings made in the category of food and beverages, but those related to music and nature should grow a lot as well

Houses tendencies

In addition to the standard urban apartment, non-traditional homes are the ones that recorded the biggest increases compared to last year. Huts in the woods and ryokans, followed by yurts (tents) and motor homes / camper vans, are growing too much in demand on the platform, showing that travelers are increasingly drawn to rustic and unique homes rather than simply comfortable.

Trend destinations

Showing a general animation for the 2018 Winter Olympics, the city of Gangneung in Korea is the top destination trend list for the year, which was created based on the increase of reserves compared to last year. Other global destinations that doubled or more than tripled compared to 2017, including three Brazilian cities that are expected to win the attention of travel lovers from around the world next year:

In South America, a growing number of travelers have chosen the extensive Brazilian coast as the ideal holiday destination for 2018, with at least a dozen beaches doubling in number of reservations. Destinations such as Matinhos, Paraná (209%), Guarapari, Espírito Santo, (205%) and Ubatuba, Sao Paulo, (181%) attract tourists to its natural beauty and less urban turmoil.

In North America, destinations within walking distance of the Canadian Rockies are attracting a growing number of guests. These include Edmonton’s urban center (284%) as well as Fernie (179%) and Kelowna (170%) – both Alpine towns that feature a wide range of year-round outdoor activities, cross-country skiing fishing and wine tasting. In the United States, Midwest cities such as Indianapolis, Indiana (256%), and Columbus, Ohio (254%) recorded the highest growth, boosted by downtown neighborhoods with new restaurants, nightlife, and local arts. Other top destinations are those that offer accommodations close to national parks where nature is attractive, such as Whitefish, Montana (242%).

In Asia, big cities like Guangzhou (190%) are consistent with increased demand for the service offered by Airbnb in China, one of our fastest growing countries. Neighboring Vietnam, a holiday destination on the rise, is registering reserve spikes in cities such as Hanoi (212%) and Da Nang (255%), which mix modern buildings overlooking the sea with secular architecture and cosmopolitan amenities.

In Europe, the highest peaks in the Mediterranean are highlighted, led by the cities of Paphos (234%) and Gazimagusa (234%) in Cyprus, popular for ancient ruins and rocky beaches. And Bournemouth, a seaside resort on the south coast of England, which recorded a growth of 353%, which guaranteed it the second place in the global ranking. Unusually warm temperatures, dramatic landscapes and vibrant nightlife with clubs and casinos make Bournemouth a tempting destination for 2018.

Popular Experiences

Gastronomy continues to be our most popular category of Experiences, accounting for 29% of total reserves. Culinary, craft food, cocktail tasting and home-made dinners make the greatest success among Experiences guests, but nature (9%) and music (9%) are other popular categories among reservations made for 2018 and Airbnb is confident that interest in outdoor tours and live shows will grow next year.
