Ski California, which operates ski resorts in California and Nevada, has released the first ever skier safety guide ever made. The Mountain Safety Guide “works as part of the company’s ongoing effort on education in winter sports,” and will have physical and online versions.
“Skiing and snowboarding are fun and exciting outdoor sports, but like any other, they have inherent risks. Because of these risks, we need to remind veterans and introduce novices of their responsibilities: being aware of their surroundings, conditions and ability” “said Amore Ohran, president and general manager of Boreal Mountain Resort. “We want our guests to leave the mountain with a great experience, and one way to do that is to know the risks and understand how to be safe, intelligent and controlled,” he added.
The guide contains safety tips that all athletes should know, including what to do before going to a resort, such as walking on lifts, skiing under potential hazards – such as deep snow and avalanche – and trail signaling.
