Airline ends 2017 with growth in all sectors

TAP Air Portugal grew 21.7% in 2017 compared to the previous year in the number of people transported, reaching the end of December with a cumulative of 14.27 million passengers, 2.55 million more than in 2016.

The growth in the occupancy rate of seats offered in 2017 also increased by 4.3 percentage points, to 82.9%.

The routes of Brazil registered a strong recovery throughout the year, growing 14%, with the company carrying 1.6 million passengers in 2017.
It was in Brazil that TAP counted its passenger number 14 million. The client made a flight from Recife to Lisbon on December 29th.

The Lisbon – Porto airway was the route in which TAP transported more passengers in 2017, totaling 726 thousand, 8% more than in 2016. In North America there was a 54.5% increase in the number of passengers transported, totaling 729 thousand.

On African routes, the company carried 29% more passengers, with an increase of 233,000. However, on the European routes, TAP increased the absolute number of passengers carried over, with 1.6 million more than in the previous year, with a total of 8.7 million, 22% than in 2016.

New records were also established for cargo transportation. TAP Cargo closed 2017 with a total of 78,000 and 500 tons of cargo and mail, representing a growth of 25% when compared to the results achieved in 2016. It is important to highlight that 80% of the total transported originated in markets outside from Portugal.
