Brazilian airlines transport almost 100 million people in 2017

Brazilian airlines carried domestic and international flights totaling 98,984,771 passengers paid in 2017. The number represents an increase of 2.93% compared to the 96,162,612 passengers who used air transportation in 2016.

According to data from the report on Demand and Supply of Air Transport – Brazilian Companies, released by the National Civil Aviation Agency, 8,357,924 paid passengers were transported by Brazilian companies on international flights to or from Brazil, representing a rise of 11, 7% compared to 2016. In the domestic market, shipments grew by 2.2% in 2017, totaling 90,626,847 passengers.

Domestic market

In the year, demand for domestic flights increased by 3.2% and supply, an accumulated growth of 1.4%, compared to contractions of 5.7% and 5.9%, respectively, in the previous year.

In the accumulated from January to December 2017, Gol presented a 36.2% share in the domestic RPK and Latam obtained 32.6%. Azul achieved a 17.8% share, while Avianca accounted for 12.9% of domestic demand.

International market

In the accumulated of the year, the international demand of the Brazilian companies grew 12% in terms of RPK (passengers-kilometers paid) and the offer advanced 10.6% in ASK (seats-kilometers offered).
