Catalonia is surpassed, and the Canary Islands are the most visited

During the month of November of 2017, the Canary Islands surpassed Catalonia in the amount of tourists received by the autonomous regions in Spain. The archipelago received 1.2 million visitors, while the Catalan destination had 986 thousand, which represents a drop of 2.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In the aggregate between January and November, however, Catalonia leads the ranking, with 18.2 million visitors, while the Canaries occupy third place, with 12.9 million. The Balearic Islands, on the other hand, are vice-leaders, with 13.6 million, followed by Andalusia, with 11 million.

GENERAL RECOVERY
After a weak performance in October, with a rise of only 1.8% in the arrival of international tourists, Spain celebrated the 4.4 million received over the next month, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE). The 7.4% growth, compared to November 2016, brought the country closer to the growing average (+ 9.5%) obtained during the year.

The November increase, however, is only higher than those of March (6.1%), August (4%), and October (1.8%), with April (16%) showing the highest growth. In all, 77.8 million tourists visited the country in the first 11 months of 2017. The city of Barcelona was damaged in August of last year with an attack that killed dozens of people in a tourist region

The main emitters for Spain are the United Kingdom (17.9 million), Germany (11.4 million) and France (10.6 million), all with higher figures than the previous year.
