Chartered flights already benefit from new rules

This week, the new rule for charter flights, the so-called holiday flight, has ceased to require the prior authorization of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) for flights. The tourism sector celebrates the novelty that should stimulate regional aviation and consequently the use of smaller airports throughout the country, boosting domestic tourism.

“The impacts will be very expressive because we believe that this normalization will result in the entry of 10 million Brazilians in the travel market and this is a great achievement and another step that we take toward the recognition of the sector as an important pillar of our economy, commented the Minister of Tourism, Marx Beltrão.

The measure will help improve the infrastructure of small airports that will need to have x-ray machines and luggage to increase flight and passenger safety, which may spark the interest of companies in starting to operate regular flights .

According to Luiz Eduardo Falco, president of CVC, Brazil’s largest charter flight operator, especially during school and summer vacations, traders will now be able to negotiate with destinations and other sectors involved in charter flights with more freedom. “For example, a destination that reduces fares and taxes such as kerosene can take advantage if it wants to receive chartered planes by becoming more competitive,” he says.

The executive director of ABAV Nacional, Gervásio Tanabe, pointed out that increased competition could have an impact on costs for passengers. “The possibility of direct negotiation between travel agencies and tour operators with airlines and airports, in terms of schedules and tariffs, opens a very important flexibility and expands competition in commercial relations, which may lead to a reduction of costs, including for the passenger, in addition to debureaucratizing the operational processes. This is a lawsuit that ABAV has been defending for some time, “he says.

Feature – In general, charter flights occupy idle airport schedules and are mainly used for one-week leisure travel. For this reason, the costs are reduced and are up to half the price of a regular airline flight. As they are hired by tour operators or travel agencies to serve a specific destination, the passenger can not reschedule the dates or endorse the ticket in another company.
