Disney’s Animal Kingdom prepares novelties to celebrate 20 years

Disney’s Animal Kingdom will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Earth Day, April 22. To celebrate this special moment, visitors will be able to count on new wild adventures and different experiences.

During the period from April 22 to May 5, the largest Disney park with an area of 1.6 million m2, will hold a “Planet Party” and will offer more interaction with animals, activities for the whole family and encounters with characters.

Throughout the two weeks, the park, in partnership with the United States Zoological Association, will invite visitors to participate in lectures and talks on conservation, as well as promoting new interactions with some of the 2,000 animals, representing 300 species that inhabit the Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Rafiki’s Planet Watch will promote backstage guided tours for visitors to learn about animal feeding, meet the veterinary hospital and hear about everything Disney does for wildlife conservation.

Throughout the park, visitors can also take photos in a giant frame celebrating the park’s 20 years or with themed frames supporting the Disney “Reverse the Decline” project. This is an initiative created to protect the 10 species of animals that are decreasing in the world like elephants, turtles, rhinos, tigers and also the golden lion tamarin in Brazil. One of the great successes of this project was the birth of two tigers-de-sumatra in the park, a rare species of tiger and the smallest one existing at the moment.

And last month, another highlight for the Disney’s Animal Kingdom team of experts: the birth of the first hippopotamus after 13 years. Yesterday her sex was revealed firsthand to half a dozen lucky visitors who were in the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction. The baby hippo is male and was already baptized Augustus. The new member of the family is 76 kilos and walks contentedly next to his mother Tuma and his father Henry, enchanting visitors in the Kilimanjaro Safaris and the Wild Africa Trek.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s fun 20th anniversary celebration also includes an adventure guide, limited edition merchandise and a special engraving by renowned Walt Disney Imagineers Joe Rohde. On April 22, it will be available from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to autograph the prints at the Discovery Trading Company, located at the entrance of the park.

Children have the chance to win a limited edition brooch by participating in activities and experiences with the Wilderness Explorer program. At Tiffins, the most exclusive concept restaurant in the park, six theme dinners will be held with an animal specialist.

Here are other experiences and adventures that will be released throughout 2018 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom:
