Due to growth in the tourism sector, Peru will invest US $ 1 billion in the hotel sector

For the second consecutive year, tourism in Peru has grown considerably. Increased infrastructure, improved airports, road construction and a greater number of companies offering the destination helped in this increase in the number of foreign tourists traveling to the country. From 2014 to 2016, this number went from 3.2 to 3.7 million, but the highlight is due to the local hotel developments.

According to Hotel & Tourism Advisor and the Hotel Society of Peru (SHP), between 2011 and 2015, more than 4,800 new lodging establishments were launched, representing a 33% increase in the offer. From level 3 to 5 stars, 43 new hotels were built. The expectation now is that another 62 hotels will open in the country over the next four years, a growth of 8,2 thousand rooms and investment of more than $ 1 billion in the sector.

The most popular destinations for tourists to Peru are the cities of Cusco, Lima and Ica. Of these, Cusco is the one with the longest average stay of visitors, who stay six nights. The other two have averages of three and two nights, respectively. Most international travelers arrive from the United States, followed by Chile in the list.

The expansion is the main focus to further attract tourists to Peru. Recently, the visitation tour to Machu Picchu began to be divided into two periods to accommodate a greater flow of people. In relation to Brazil, Latam announced the route between Rio de Janeiro and Lima to be started from October 31 of this year.
