Electronic Visa for Australians starts to work

The Itamaraty inaugurated the E-VISA Visa Program for citizens of Australia, Canada, the US and Japan. The Brazilian E-Visa will cost US $ 40, substantially cheaper than the traditional visa, will have a maximum validity of two years and does not exclude the possibility of the person requesting a visa in the traditional way, through the Brazilian consular network. The foreign applicant may apply for the E-visa and obtain it remotely, via a website or application on a mobile phone or tablet.
The beneficiary must submit to the airline, in a first phase of the project, a hard copy or digitized image of the electronic visa in order to be able to embark for Brazil. The Federal Police is fully integrated with the E-visa, and there is a prospect of integration in the near future with e-Gates at Brazilian airports, currently exclusive to Brazilian citizens.
The planned dates for the entry into operation of the electronic visa are as follows: November 21, 2017, for Australian nationals; January 11, 2018, for Japanese nationals; January 18, 2018, for Canadians, and January 25, 2018, for US citizens. Brazilian consulates in these four countries accounted for 63.74% of global demand for tourism visas in 2016 and 58.15% of demand for business visas for Brazil.
