Group brings together ideal destinations for independent travelers

The month of March is all dedicated to the celebration of women and their conquests. The year 2017 became known as the “woman traveler year” in the tourism industry, and since then, 2018 has become the “woman’s year.” And what better way to celebrate female, individual and collective achievements than traveling alone? To commemorate, Marriott has drawn up a list of eight special destinations for women travelers that takes into account local safety, cultural immersion, learning opportunities and inspiration.

“As a traveling woman, I suggest these eight destinations for 2018,” says Kieran Donahue, vice president of Travel and Tourism. “Travel has a vital role in balancing personal and professional life as it creates opportunities to replenish energy and learn about the culture of each destination. brand, marketing and digital services for the Americas at Marriott International.

Punta Mita, Mexico: one of the most visited beaches in Mexico by women from all over the world, the small fishing village is ideal for fans of the sea breeze and the warmth of the sun. The destination attracts thousands of tourists every year in search of natural landscapes and tranquility. It is just a few miles from Sayulita, the ideal place to discover new water sports. Sayulita has hotels like the newly opened W Punta de Mita, perfect for lively and dynamic travelers.

Montevideo, Uruguay: With an exotic “quê” and hospitality that attracts a large number of travelers, Uruguay is already a popular destination among women traveling alone. The capital is one of Latin America’s most popular cosmopolitan cities, thanks to attractions such as the Ciudad Vieja, which features a combination of Art Deco buildings and colonial houses. Travelers interested in local cuisine will find excellent options at Mercado del Puerto, where restaurants and small shops operate. The Aloft Montevideo Hotel is ideal for the modern woman; the Sheraton Montevideo Hotel is an excellent choice for those looking for something more traditional.

Panama: The country’s popularity goes beyond the famous channel that connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Panama City has several modern skyscrapers and nightclubs that contrast with the colonial buildings of Casco Viejo and the green of the Metropolitan National Park, demonstrating the diversity of the destination. Located in a neighborhood just minutes from the airport and the city center, the new luxury hotel and golf resort Santa Maria is designed to cater to the new generation of global explorers in search of authentic cultural experiences. Take time to explore the beauty of the place for its turquoise waters, historic architecture, great restaurants and outdoor adventures.

Washington, DC: Spending a woman’s month in the American capital is a great idea for several reasons. Several feminist movements were born there, and it is possible to explore the whole city on foot (or by bike, thanks to the city’s bikes-sharing program). There are many monuments and places to visit year-round, but D.C. is especially beautiful during the spring, season of the cherry blossoms. The historic Mayflower Hotel is next to museums with free admission and hosted several famous and successful women like Amelia Earhart, Sophia Loren and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Chicago, IL: It’s not difficult to stay busy in Chicago, especially staying in the center of the Magnificent Mile, ideal place to explore the most important attractions and visit the major shops. The Windy City has activity and dining options for all profiles, but Gwen offers a unique experience for women. The property has been a part of the city’s history since 1930. Its façade was designed in 1928 by sculptor Gwen Lux, who stood out in the 1930s in a city dominated by male design. At the hotel, today’s women can celebrate women of the past. During the month of March, Upstairs bar in Gwen will serve the special drink “The Future is Female”.

Sedona, AZ: Combining relaxation, adventure and self-reflection, Sedona appeals to all independent travelers. Although known as the “spiritual healing mecca” thanks to meditation, yoga and its spas, the city also offers adventure courses and off-road tours, as well as having almost 200 trails to explore. The views of the mountain ranges provided by the Courtyard Sedona are impressive, but the best way to see the place is outdoors. For those who prefer to relax in the hotel, the main attractions are the views of the deck, the meditation spot, the fireplaces and the morning meditation classes surrounded by nature.

Maui, HI: The Hawaiian island is ideal for independent travelers who want to explore the Pacific. Those seeking adventure will find various tours and activities for groups, including trails and zip lines. If you prefer to walk alone, be comfortable: it is totally safe. The island’s activities offer independent travelers the opportunity to connect with the Kama’aina (locals) and other tourists. And, of course, islands are always excellent places to relax: there are almost 50 kilometers of beaches to explore. It is very difficult to see any of them crowded. The Wailea Beach Resort – Marriott, Maui is steps from Wailea and Ulua beaches and features a full schedule of activities such as yoga under full moon light and introduction to scuba diving in one of its five pools.

Montreal, Canada: It’s not a bad idea to travel alone to meet some of the coolest people in the world. But this is not the only attraction of Montreal, safe city, with European airs and bilingual residents. The trip there is very fast from the east coast of the United States and there are several museums and shops to visit. Montreal also has numerous options for eating and drinking as well. The gastronomic circuit is very rich. Do not leave without trying the Poutine: the typical Quebec dish is prepared with chips and chunks of cheese topped with special sauce. Enjoy the Old Montreal area, explore Mont-Royal or watch a concert of the city’s Symphony Orchestra. The AC Hotel Montreal Downtown will be inaugurated in March this year in the center of the entertainment district and within minutes of shopping and dining options.
