More than a thousand Brazilians have canceled Italian citizenship

The town of Ospedaletto Lodigiano, in the Lombardy region of Italy, decided to cancel the citizenship of almost a thousand Brazilians who did not fulfill all the requirements for the grant of the document.

On 9 February, the City Council announced a list of all 1,118 Brazilians affected by the measure. Citizenship proceedings had been opened between July 2015 and July 2017.

According to local authorities, two civil servants were working on a scheme with a Brazilian couple that involved corruption and did not meet the minimum length of stay in Italy required to qualify for a citizenship process via residence.

The list of Brazilians who have had Italian citizenship canceled can be checked here.

The city, with less than two thousand inhabitants, often encounters foreign citizens trying to establish residence to enter the citizenship process.
