Bairrada, its wines and the differentiated gastronomy
The Bairrada due to its geographical location stands out for the climate and soil favorable for the cultivation of grapes for quality wines. The production of wines in Bairrada has been documented since the Roman period.

It was with the production of red wine that Bairrada came to be recognized as a wine region par excellence. However, white wines have assumed an important role over the last century, mainly in the production of natural sparkling wines, in which Bairrada pioneered in Portugal.

The region of Bairrada lives mainly in agriculture and the gastronomy is highlighted by the Leitão da Bairrada, mutton and goat meats, for example. The cod with the lagareiro, and the eels of fritada, of stew or with sauce of piglet are very inviting.

When it comes to sweets, noodles, sweet rice, milk-cream, nun’s bellies, bacon, pasties of Águeda and the curia’s loves are consumed.
