Uruguay predicts tourist record in summer season 2018

Last week, the Uruguayan Center for Economic Research (CINVE) stated that 2017 will have a new record of receptive tourism in the country. According to information from the Ministry of Tourism of Uruguay and the National Directorate of Migration, last year, more than three million foreigners entered the country. In 2017, in the first half alone, 65% of the total number of tourists in 2016 were already in the neighborhood.

For the coming year, CINVE estimates that the arrival of tourists will increase by 4.5%, which would give Uruguay a new record in the number of visitors received in the country, followed by a record 5.8% expected for the summer season ( December 2017 – April 2018). One of the reasons for the neighbor’s optimism is the economic stabilization of the two brothers – Argentina and Brazil, who are economically firm despite the difficult years that have passed.

The economic situation of the two countries has not discouraged the population that still maintains their travel plans, proof of this is the increase in the number of tourists coming from Argentina and Brazil who visit Uruguay. Approximately 1.5 million Argentines were in the country in the first six months of 2017 alone, an increase of 32.6% compared to the same period in 2016. Seven out of 10 foreign tourists come from there. More than 240,000 Brazilians have visited Uruguay this year, an increase of approximately 32% over the first half of 2016.

And it was thinking of this increase, that the Ministry of Tourism of Uruguay and the Consulate General of Uruguay in Rio Grande do Sul launch this week, in Porto Alegre, the new tourism campaign, presenting the highlights of the 2017/2018 season. If forecasts are to come true, the tourism industry will surpass the numbers of last summer’s harvest, which have been the best since the country passed on this kind of information.
