Visiting Monet’s gardens in France

Roses, dahlias, daisies and hundreds of other flowers in bunches, branches and multiple colors blend into a messy elegance in the Normandy Garden, the first created by Claude Monet on his property in Giverny, France, where he chose to spend the final 43 years of his life divided between his paintings and the gardens he personally tended.

Strolling in Monet’s gardens – the other is the Japanese Garden with its famous Nympheas or water lilies, bridges, lake and streams is like entering its paintings, it is like contemplating live the pictures of this genius of Impressionism. If Monet’s house charms, Giverny also entices the visitor with its flowery streets, Norman homes and the tranquility of only 500 inhabitants.

Visiting Giverny is one of the tours offered by AmaWaterways on the route Paris and Normandy, with departures scheduled from March to November. The journey begins and ends in Paris by visiting Vernon, from where one goes to Giverny, Caudebec-en-Caux, Rouen, Les Andelys, Conflans and, in return, overnight in Paris.

Seine river cruises to Normandy are held at AmaLyra with seven nights of sailing, exquisite dinners including wines, unlimited beer and soft drinks, daily complimentary cocktail, free wi-fi, complimentary bicycles for shore excursions.
