Saudi Arabia women get right to travel alone

The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Assets will guarantee, from the first half of 2018, the right of women who want to travel alone, without the presence of a relative or guardian. The visa will be available for 30 days for women over 25 years.

The visa works independently of the reasons for the trip, whether for work, visit or traditional religious customs, such as the pilgrimage to the city of Mecca, held every year by adherents of Islam.

The decision is part of an initiative to highlight national tourism, enabling more travel in Saudi Arabia and a decrease in international travel. In addition, it seeks to boost the tourist market and enable the creation of new jobs in the country.
