Saudi Arabia expects to receive 2 million people in holy city

Every year, between the eighth and the thirteenth day of the last month of the Islamic calendar is realized the Haje, pilgrimage to Mecca by the Muslims. Saudi Arabia expects to receive two million people from around the world in the holy city between 30 August and 4 September.

The country has so far received 1.497 million pilgrims who are preparing for the last of the five pillars of Islam. Pilgrimage is obligatory, at least once in life, for every adult Muslim who has the financial and physical conditions to carry it out. For many, it represents the culmination of their spiritual life.

The responsibility for organizing the pilgrimage lies with the government of Saudi Arabia under the direct supervision of the Custody of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman. It is a great logistic enterprise.

The number of foreign pilgrims has increased exponentially, rising from 24,000 in 1941 to 1,325,000 in 2016. Saudi government officials prepare for visitors from more than 80 countries. People with fluency in more than ten languages ​​were sent to the site to meet the language needs of the pilgrims.

In addition, measures have been taken to ensure the highest level of safety: 17,000 Civil Defense personnel will be supported by 3,000 advanced vehicles and 493 ambulances, 300 of which will be land, 113 centers and eight airplanes.
