Atout France receives to celebrate “La Galette des Rois” the day of Kings

“Tahiti has grown 30% in sales in Brazil”

Between drinks and a lot of chat, the first meeting promoted by Caroline Putnok, general director of Atout France for Brazil, happened yesterday (9). At the opportunity Carline thanked for the results achieved in 2017. He also said that his work will be focused on partnerships! One of the main focuses is to promote all regions beyond Paris. The “Galette des Rois” is a pie made with puff pastry and stuffed with fruit compote or almond paste. Traditionally, it is made to celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord, a Christian religious festival that celebrates the arrival of Christ in the World and the tributes paid by the Magi on that occasion. Epiphany means “manifestation of God.” This celebration celebrated on January 6, is also known as “Day of Kings.”

According to tradition, a saint in porcelain is hidden within each Galette and the one who finds the “treasure” is crowned King (or Queen). The children, of course, besides loving to eat the pie (which is a delight) are very anxious to know who will be the king or the queen of the house. In fact, the galettes sold in the trade already come with a crown and everything for the occasion! In some regions the custom is to be the youngest child, hidden under the table, who must randomly indicate the distribution of the parts of the galette, one of which must be kept for the poor, is “God’s part.”
