“We have seen a consistent increase in reservations via the platform and a greater demand for domestic destinations, especially at Carnival. As we have over 160 thousand ads in the country, we have been able to offer the traveler a variety of accommodation options, for all tastes and pockets. Thus, in addition to democratizing tourism, we also guarantee an extra income to the hosts, “says Airbnb Brazil director-general Léo Tristão.

With this, the residents of Fortaleza, Salvador, Recife and Maceió who are renting their spaces on the platform will have an extra income of almost R $ 5 million in the five days of revelry.
Pulling out the growth are Maceió, which will receive 122% more guests by this year’s platform, eFortaleza, with a 115% increase in guest arrivals.

Santa Catarina continues to grow – Florianópolis is the second national destination with more reserves for Carnival, after being the most sought after by Brazilians on New Year’s Eve. In comparison with last Carnival, 57% more guests are accommodated in Airbnb ads, generating an income of more than $ 10 million for local residents, almost double the last year’s holiday.
Other coastal cities in Santa Catarina registered an increase in the reserves, especially Porto Belo, which doubled the number of guests for this Carnival. Together, hosts Porto Belo, Balneário Camburiú and Imbituba will have rental rent via Airbnb of more than R $ 4.6 million.

According to research done by the platform, 20% of the hosts use that extra income to keep the home (avoid eviction or loss of the property). In addition, platform activity moves the economy of the neighborhoods, as it brings tourists to places outside the hotel or traditional districts.
A study by Fipe in 2016 showed that, apart from lodging costs, travelers opting for Airbnb spend an average of three times more than those staying in hotels. As a result, Airbnb’s activity injected more than R $ 2.5 billion into the national GDP, equivalent to the generation of 70 thousand new jobs in the country.
