Cruises can leverage national tourism

Research commissioned by the MTur revealed that nine out of ten Brazilians believe that the cruise sector can leverage national tourism. More than 2,000 people were heard and 88.8% favored government stimulus to create new ports.

The regions with the greatest support to the initiative are: South, with 91.2%; And Northeast, with 90.6%. In the Southeast, the stimulus is supported by 89%, while in the North and Midwest, approval is around 83.8%.

The high point of the sector in the Country was observed in 2010/2011, when 20 ships transported by the Brazilian coast about 800 thousand tourists. For the high season of 2017/2018, which begins in November, seven ships are expected to carry 400,000 passengers.

For the Minister of Tourism, Marx Beltrão, the potential of the Brazilian coast needs to be better utilized. “Even in a scenario of retraction, the maritime cruise sector contributed with R $ 1.911 billion in the Brazilian economy in the 2015/2016 season,” he said.

Beltrão made this statement during the opening of the seminar “Maritime cruises: the moment is the one”, held today in Brasilia. The event was promoted by the Brazilian Association of Sea Cruises to address the topics of greatest interest within the sector.
