An example of biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism development, Iguaçu National Park, where the Iguassu Falls are located, surpassed this Saturday, July 29, at 13h34, the mark of 1 million visitors in the year.

It is important to note that the mark obtained by the Brazilian side of the park occurs 19 days before the previous record of August 17, 2015, year also that the conservation unit registered its best annual visit with 1,642,093 people. Brazilians lead the movement, followed by Argentines, Paraguayans, French, Germans and Americans.

The good numbers reflect the positive moment of Destino Iguaçu. Despite the economic stagnation, Foz do Iguaçu has been the preferred destination of Brazilians. At the same time, the favorable exchange rate stimulates domestic tourism and the arrival of Argentines and tourists from Mercosur.

“They also contribute positively to this good performance of Destino, the regional road tourism, the good offer of seats by the airlines and the excellent cost-benefit ratio of our hotel network. The expectation is to close the year with a growth between 15% and 20%, with about 1.8 million visitors, “says the Secretary of Tourism, Industry, Commerce and Strategic Projects, Gilmar Piolla.
